If and when these tariffs take effect, let’s stop fooling around trying to deal with this a***ole. Let’s cut energy exports and tariff the hell out of American products coming into Canada. It will hurt for a while but let’s not forget it’s a war and wars hurt everyone involved. There won’t be a clear winner in this conflict but we must inflict as much damage as we can on the enemy if we don’t want to be gobbled up by this nonsense. Enough is enough! We have to fight back! Geez!
I did learn decades ago not to argue with a drunk. This lunatic and his evil cruell regime want chaos and destruction of our Canadian and global economics. I can do without anything produced in the US. It is absolutely time to push back, hard, and aggressively work to create new relationships with Europe, Australia, NZ, and other sane governmnets.
We need to add a premium then to all our resources, including oil and gas being sent to the US, for our fight against illegal guns coming from the States. I mean with the terrorist group in Quebec recently showing the ammunition and equipment that they had that was not legal in Canada. That was something that you could not get here in Canada. That is 100% illegal guns and weaponry from the United States. I agree with Georgette, it’s gonna hurt for a little while, but let’s stop dicking around and get this guy once and for all. I truly believe if we finally stand up, the rest of the world will stand by us.
Very good points. I am tired of the chaos. It is my most fervent hope that we are behind the scenes arranging trade deals with other countries. I understand China and Japan are the second and third trading partners for our copper. Surely they would like to buy more.
Pffft. What a blowhard. July 21st is approaching, Carneys deadline for a Canada/US trade deal. Bullying is just part of Trumps "art of the deal" negotiation tactic. He's actually pretty transparent.
This is not being alarmist: Many countries failed to take Hitler seriously either and their leaders played "Wait and see" games with him until it was almost too late.
Krugman thinks that he will actually do it this time. I think even Trump realizes the constantly threatening tariffs without actually imposing them makes him look weak. But it’s still all an act to keep the spotlight on him.
“It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter…”. He sent/is sending this same letter to countries all around the world, using different percentages depending on how he feels that day. Impossible!
The writing’s on the wall with this A-Hole, we need to counter tariff the sh#t out of US made goods and any Canadian's still travelling to the US need to give their head a shake, you might as well vacation in Russia. If my next car is not made in Canada I will buy a foreign made car (not US) and have it imported.
Canadians that say they will travel to the US when Trump’s term is over need to remember the Americans that voted for him and still support him will still be there.
I can honestly say that I will never travel to the U.S. again. Ever. Aside from Trump, there are just too many issues/problems and policies that I cannot support without significant moral injury.
My dollars are going to Canada; a goal that I have had for the last 5 or so years is to see more of Canada and slowly but surely I am making good on that. If not Canada, then other places in the world. Anywhere but the U.S.
The US Court of International Trade ruled these across-the-board tariffs based on the fentanyl excuse illegal. While an appeals court stayed the ruling until further arguments, this issue IS in the courts, and fatso knows it. (Or whoever writes these insane letters).
The 50% on copper is a different beast (imposed under a different act).
This is just another market manipulation tactic. Threaten tariffs , crash the market, buy distressed shares, change the threat, the market regains - then sell, baby sell - and stack some more billions in your treasure chest. The only part of commerce that can respond this quickly to chaos is the markets. Mining, manufacturing, processing, supply chain, production, building and staffing all take time. Trying to respond to tariff rants every few days is ludicrous. We need to let the toddler play in his sand-box while we continue to work with serious adults around the globe.

Completely agree.
Elbows up!
There will be no peace or actual adulting wrt trade between our countries while the orange boy man sits on his throne.

Trump wants to keep the whole world off-balance and anxious. He is an evil man. No doubt he ran his businesses this way as well.

"If not now, when?" ❤️🇨🇦

I am SO fed up with this BS. Tariffs aside, we need to sanction the US for Human Rights violations!
