A new federal poll is shaking up Canada’s political landscape, showing that the Liberals are nearly tied with the Conservatives—a shift that should have Pierre Poilievre worried. While much of the political conversation has revolved around whether Mark Carney will take the helm of the Liberal Party, the reality is that even without Carney as leader, the Liberals are only a few points behind the Conservatives.
The most interesting takeaway from this poll isn’t just that Liberals are winning over Green and NDP voters—that was expected. What’s surprising is that they are also chipping away at the Conservative base.
This brings us to Poilievre’s press conference yesterday, which, rather than strengthening his position, highlighted why his message is failing to resonate with Canadians.
Poilievre’s Attacks on Carney – A Losing Strategy
At his press conference, Poilievre desperately tried to tie Mark Carney to Justin Trudeau, portraying him as an elite outsider who is anti-Canada. His main attack points?
Carney moved “his” business to New York
Carney invested in pipelines outside of Canada.
Carney is part of the "global elite."
Here’s the problem: Poilievre is banking on Canadians being stupid. These talking points aren’t really true when you dig into it.
He doesn’t seem to understand that a significant portion of his support last year had little to do with his policies—it was simply because Canadians wanted a change from Justin Trudeau. They wanted a new face, new leadership, and new ideas.
But now that Trudeau has stepped aside, Canadians are actually paying attention to Poilievre himself—his policies, his rhetoric, and his overall vision for the country. And many are realizing that his message isn’t what they signed up for.
Poilievre’s Trump Problem
The biggest issue for Poilievre is that the world has changed since last year, and with Donald Trump returning to power in the U.S., people are noticing the similarities between the two.
Defund the media.
Drill, baby, drill.
Deregulate everything.
Slash taxes at all costs.
Blame "wokeism" for every problem.
For some, that might sound appealing—until you actually see it play out in the U.S.. Canada is watching as Trump’s policies cause chaos in America, and suddenly, Poilievre’s platform doesn’t seem so attractive anymore.
The "Wokeism" Distraction – Canadians Aren’t Buying It
Poilievre seems convinced that the biggest issue facing Canada is "wokeism", but the truth is that most Canadians don’t care about this so-called culture war.
I have yet to meet a single Canadian who genuinely believes wokeism is our country’s biggest issue. Sure, there’s a small but very loud group that obsesses over it, but they do not represent the majority. Because they are so vocal, Poilievre seems to think this is the winning message—but the polls suggest otherwise.
What Do Canadians Actually Want?
Canadians are looking for a leader who is:
✅ Realistic – The idea that slashing all government funding will fix the economy isn’t serious. People want real solutions, not slogans.
✅ Serious – The public is tired of the political games and ideological battles. They want a leader focused on jobs, economic growth, and stability.
✅ Focused on unity, not division – Poilievre is using the same "us vs. them" strategy that Trump perfected, but Canada isn’t America. We don’t define our failures by blaming immigrants, diversity policies, or minority groups—and Canadians are rejecting that kind of politics.
Now that Mark Carney is emerging as an alternative, people are paying attention. And while Poilievre continues to push culture war narratives, Carney is sticking to the economy, jobs, and stability—the things Canadians actually care about.
Poilievre may have been the "other option" when Trudeau was in power, but now that Trudeau is gone, Canadians are looking for someone serious, not just another loudmouth populist. And the polls are proving it.
