The left needs to stop with the purity tests. Are there some things we should not accept? Yes. Racism, bigotry etc. However, you have to meet with the centre to get things done. 🤷🏼
Cole, you knocked it out of the ball, you nailed it. Yes, we must focus collectively on the simple, doable, improvements in how government works to support individuals and with then grow the big picture changes to set the future for all.
What I’d add is this: we need to listen to rural Canada. Right now, the left strongly represents the big cities, but many rural Canadians don’t see themselves reflected in that. If the left wants to build real unity, it has to understand and address the challenges rural communities are facing too.
We grew up and lived many years in small town Western Canada, and I very much agree, that visible, tangilble support for rural issues (hospitals, doctors, schools, care homes, etc), would build support and diminish the far right talking points.
Cole, you are valuable. I think the same. I even told my excellent MP Blake Desjarlais (not sure what he did wrong that lost his seat but they did chg the riding to remove my neighbourhood-too progressive I guess) for the NDP, Liberals, Green Party and the Bloq to talk, agree on a platform and make one big party. That would keep the elites with a Conservative Party that can’t hold power.
I don’t know if I agree. I’ve never voted party, but the policies. If we stand staunchly behind Liberal, don’t we then make ourselves a 2 party system like the US. Democrats and Republicans are both owned by AIPAC and corporate interests. Their policies differ very little on paper. Their foreign policy and war agendas are identical. We want to keep Canada unique. I like the NDP, they keep Liberal Government in check. You are right, no party is perfect. But, Liberals do not listen about Palestine, and that truly concerns me, it shows a greater problem, what direction is Canada heading? I hate the right, but being so fearful that we vote against our own interests is not where I want to be.
This doesn't mean we have to stand behind liberals. It means we must do what's needed at the time to avoid the worst possible outcome. Which in the last election was making sure the conservatives don't win. Now we must organize in our own communities to find the best possible candidates with the best possibility of getting elected to move us forward with the next election.
💯 i have been NDP all my life until recently. I was extremely disappointed with Singh’s attack on Carney for the reasons mentioned above… the writing was clear the fight was between PP and Carney… Singh should have been in support mode. This shite is real. No time for egos when the maple maga is so determined. (I cannot abide PP and do not see the fascination with that man, that party) imo

Whoa… Just when I thought you couldn’t get any better you did…👏

Perfectly articulated!
I love it, Cole!
Manageable, tactical first steps. We can do this!!!
Tactical sounds a bit manipulative and forced when really this is really more natural and honest good start towards something so much better.

Bravo. Well said.
yep.
You are an old soul.
It took me many decades to figure out what you have expressed succinctly and clearly here. So impressive. Wise. And true.
This is really good.! Thank you.
Great article Cole and this is the reason why I do support you!! We do need to come together!!
