Always material in Cole’s round-up that I have not seen before. Concise. Accurate. Well-researched. What a treasure. Oh, and Canadian.

Great content as always. Very appreciated. I follow Canadian News from East to West but sometimes there are encouraging bits that don’t get much attention so thank you for pointing them out. It’s inspiring to see our Premiers really trying hard to keep our business away from the US. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

These decision were influenced by CONservative misinformation and exaggerated claims like these produce negative outcomes, as seen with Toronto’s overdose crisis and Quebec’s labor disputes. These 2 examples underscore the importance of evidence-based policymaking over rhetoric-driven reforms.

Of course big companies are fighting the restrictions. There was going to be a backlash. Yes they will make less profits because of new laws but wow, they have been over profiting for ages.

Where I live, unemployment is high and they say they can't get workers so they bring in workers from other countries to fast food places and restaurants. The reason these factories can't get staff is because they set up artificial barriers to Canadian workers. Examples...over 100 people show up for a factory job fair...they interview 2 people, that's it. They also are not willing to train people properly, use that as an excuse but certainly have to spend a lot on training foreign workers but pay them less. There are no Unions at most of these places where working there is done on an equitable scale and they have to pay a fair living wage. Foreign workers don't make complaints about working conditions etc because they need to money to support their families living in very poor conditions. Canada has workers, the businesses just need to train them, not weasel around fair working practices, which the do all the time. They MAKE it difficult for Canadians to get the jobs, them claim there is no one to fill positions, if they get positions where there is no Union they get treated terribly and leave. They are not lazy, many companies just treat all workers terribly and foreign workers are a pawn in their bid for more profits.

Companies just want profits...they will go the most inexpensive routes. Canadians and foreign workers pay the price. Let's see them all get paid and treated fairly, then I bet the need for foreign workers would drop. If they don't, fair enough. Seasonal workers needed on farms i get as it is not regular employment, McDonalds asking a College student for 2 years experience in fast food as a bottom line requirement for employment is ridiculous.
